TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
It's been a short Easter holidays, I hope you made the most of it and had lots of fun and rest. But now, let's get back to work!
As you may have guessed by the wonderful quote by Henry Ford in the picture, our new ICT challenge has in fact been a group challenge. Group work gives us the perfect opportunity to have great results since, in a group, we don't just count with our ideas and potential but also with the ideas and potentials of the rest of our colleagues. "Two heads think better than one" right? So imagine what we can do with six!
In this case, we were placed in a group according to the topics we had chosen in the previous challenge four our CLIL e-project drafts. Do you remember mine? Well, given the fact that my topic had to do with Geography, I was placed in a group with my classmates Ana, Victor, Inma, Lola and Natalia, who had chosen similar topics.
For the upcoming group challenges, we were asked to think about a common CLIL e-project that combined a piece of all of our individual ones. Not an easy task! After weighing up several possibilities, we finally reached an agreement: our new e-project would have as its main goal, the teaching of Europe's most important political, physical and cultural features. Nevertheless, and despite the fact that we had already set our goal, we still had an important decision to make: how could we make a motivating project out of this? You see, we thought that as primary school teachers, it is essential that we motivate our students and engage them in the learning process, and what works better at doing that than games? So we decided to name our e-project after the"Olympic Games" and, on the pretext of looking for the perfect country to host the next Olympic Games, we would have our students search for all that information about a given European country. Isn't that a great idea?
Having this in mind, we took over our first group challenge. In it, we had to create what is known as an "Infographic" about our new project. Now, I know what you are thinking: "what is an Infographic?". Well, it is basically a means through which we communicate something graphically. Still don't get it? Don't worry, you will see it clearer once you see the final outcome of my group's Infographic at the end of this post.
However, before doing so, you must know that the first thing we did was to choose the tool that matched the best the idea that we had in mind of how we wanted our Infographic to look like. Finally, we agreed on ,a web tool that allows users to create attractive, eye-catching presentations as it gives them the opportunity to choose between a wide range of templates, graphics, pictures and even font styles. I must say I had never heard of this online tool before. The main reason why we finally decided to pick it was because some of the members in my team had seen some presentations made with this tool before and liked the results. Now, after having been working with it for the development of our Infographic I must say I couldn't agree more with them! Piktochart is great!
We even sent our Infographic to the InfoEdugraphics nationwide collaborative blog to take part in its nationwide project, and were given an award for having participated in it, as you can see in the "awards" section of my blog.
